I just couldn’t resist sharing this “Farm Fresh” photo taken with my sweet friends, BellaRose and Hollings. We had a fun time feeding the chickens! Our Farm Fresh Photo Contest is over (pictures on page 20) and we have a new one starting this month. Sophie’s Fall For Fashion Photo Contest which celebrates the unique talents of stylists, photographers, models, and designers. This contest is open to everyone so send in your creations. The winner will receive a spread in a future issue of Sophie Magazine.

After this long, very hot summer, we’re probably all ready for a change in both temperature and apparel. While I never tire of wearing pretty sundresses and cute sandals, I love it when the evening air turns a little chilly and a light jacket is needed. Around this time of the year, I also find myself peeking at a few of my old friends like my favorite pair of brown boots and my winter-white wool coat which, for now, are tucked away in the back of my closet.
In September, fashion magazines go from around 200 pages to an outrageous 900 plus pages. The September issue of Vogue is so significant in the fashion industry there has been a documentary on the making of it. It’s appropriately named, The September Issue. While I subscribe to several different magazines, I always save my September copy of InStyle. I adore looking back at fashion through the recent years. It seems that September is to the fashion industry what January is to the New Year; a new beginning with an element of anticipation on what is yet to come.
I’m thrilled to share stunning designs from The Costume Drama Fashion Show recently held in Asheville. The show, under the direction of Sara Fields, raised nearly $8000 for the Asheville Community Theatre. The categories for the show included flowers, feathers, tape, and paper which gave way to intriguing and very original designs. While you may not choose to walk around town wearing a dress made from little paper parasols, the ingenuity of the design and exquisite execution will surely impress you. After all, what is fashion if not fantasy?
September is also the month for denim. The stores are full of jeans, jackets and I’ve even seen denim shoes! Brielle Fuchs models a cute denim skirt that’s a cinch to make in Crafty Girl, page 56. It’s the perfect sewing project for a budding fashion designer!
